Bedrock Groundwater Catchment Area Unveils Rainfall‐Runoff Processes in Headwater Basins

چکیده
Bedrock groundwater (BGW) has a contribution area that differs from of the surface watershed. To date, there been no analysis using BGW observations to determine what extent catchment influences runoff characteristics. This study determined water table, densely nested boring wells (61 in bedrock and three soil layer) drilled granitic basin (2.3 ha). Streamflow was also measured concurrently across entire watershed (F0) subwatersheds (F1 F6). The F3 accounted for 191% derived topography, reducing adjacent watersheds through cross-watershed flow. annual precipitation input baseflow volume highly correlated, indicating reflected actual effect layer more accurately than area. degree weathering showed table distributed along boundary CL–CM classes. estimated permeability CM class based on deep percolation rate suggests depth near is hydrological basement surface; this defines demonstrates concept provides an accurate prediction streamflow mountainous headwater basins are heavily governed by processes bedrock.

Scale effects on headwater catchment runoff timing, flow sources, and groundwater-streamflow relations
[1] The effects of catchment size and landscape organization on runoff generation are poorly understood. Little research has integrated hillslope and riparian runoff investigation across catchments of different sizes to decipher first-order controls on runoff generation. We investigated the role of catchment sizes on riparian and hillslope dynamics based on hydrometric and tracer data observed ...
متن کاملThe influence of soil moisture on threshold runoff generation processes in an alpine headwater catchment
This study investigates the role of soil moisture on the threshold runoff response in a small headwater catchment in the Italian Alps that is characterised by steep hillslopes and a distinct riparian zone. This study focuses on: (i) the threshold soil moisture-runoff relationship and the influence of catchment topography on this relation; (ii) the temporal dynamics of soil moisture, streamflow ...
متن کاملHuman enteric viruses in groundwater from a confined bedrock aquifer.
Confined aquifers are overlain by low-permeability aquitards that are commonly assumed to protect underlying aquifers from microbial contaminants. However, empirical data on microbial contamination beneath aquitards is limited. This study determined the occurrence of human pathogenic viruses in well water from a deep sandstone aquifer confined by a regionally extensive shale aquitard. Three pub...
متن کاملParallel Computing of Catchment Basins in Large Digital Elevation Model
This paper presents a fast and flexible parallel implementation to compute catchment basins in the large digital elevation models (DEM for short). This algorithm aims at using all the specific properties of the problem to optimize local computations and to avoid useless communications or synchronizations. The algorithm has been implemented in MPI and the first benchmarks show the scalability of...
